Welcome to our web site we hope you find some useful information. This site gives you a snapshot of some of the centre activities and courses available.

Tullamore Community Training Centre continues to provide training and educational opportunities to early school leavers since its inception in 1986. Following on from discussions between individuals and organizations concerned with the high levels of youth unemployment in the area a committee was formed in 1986 and set about tackling the problem. They identified the Training Workshop model as a method by which they could address some of those issues. In consultation with ANCO (FÁS) they established the Community Training Workshop and with a Manager and three staff they initially set up the Centre in Saint Mary’s Youth Club.

The Centre moved to the present location at Kilcruttin in late ’86 providing training in catering, woodwork and engineering. They continued to expand the service to include literacy/numeracy and hairdressing.  Many improvements and innovation to this service have been made since, notably the introduction of certification such as FETAC and City & Guilds. In recent years the Centre has introduced Department of Education certification in hairdressing leading to apprenticeships and ECDL. In 2004 the Centre achieved the Excellence Through People Award and for the fourth time the Restaurant achieved the Healthy Heart Award. The Centre continues to maintain links with Moate Business College and Athlone Institute of Education where students can progress to third level education.

Company Profile

The role and function of the Centre is to meet in as far as is practicable the educational and training needs of the client group.  This is achieved through a process of consultation and dialogue with all stakeholders, learners, parents, social services, Juvenile Liaison officer, probation services, the Board, employers, FÁS and staff. Through this dialogue the Centre constructs a profile of the client group, their needs, the needs of the labour market and the strategies best suited to meet these needs.  The Board of Management and Staff from the outcomes of these discussions design the training and education programme to meet these needs.

The project is funded by FÁS with Co Offaly Vocational Educational Committee providing the funding and staff for a literacy  Teacher and a Psychologist. The Centre is affiliated to IACTO which is a support organisation for the Boards of Management.
